By assessing your network’s performance before you deploy a Polycom solution, you can identify in advance any areas that may affect the performance of your  solution.

Polycom is a leading expert in the requirements for high-performance video traffic over an IP network. As such, it offers a Video Network Readiness Service designed to share our knowledge to your network or IT team. 

This service may follow the Solution Design phase and, if applicable, will use your deployment plan to review your intended video deployment and network design and compare them  to Polycom best practices. Then, our consultants will identify any areas where you need  to make changes.

This service also deploys a test tool that analyzes the current network implementation to identify areas where the network cannot consistently provide high-quality support.   This tool comes with a subscription service for one year, so you have an ongoing view of your network’s performance.

By using the Polycom Video Network Readiness Service, you can:

  • Proactively ready your network for high-quality video so it delivers the best user experience
  • Leverage Polycom expertise so it supports your in-house technical resources who may not be expert in the requirements of video over IP
  • Prepare for the bandwidth demand that a new video deployment or upgrade creates in the network
  • Gain access to the Pathview monitoring tool, which is licensed  to operate for a year from initial deployment (with an option to renew) and is accessible by all appropriate enterprise stakeholders

This service review’s the customer’s network for best practices and actual performance in supporting the low loss, latency and jitter requirements needed to support high quality video conferencing, and provides a report indicating the status of the network and an outline of work to be done to correct any issues discovered during this assessment.

PathView Network Test Tool – The Polycom PathView network test tool will be installed and configured to test network paths used by video conferencing to all room and Telepresence endpoints in the customer video deployment that are connected to the enterprise network and reachable via the ICMP protocol. This tool will be used to assess each network path, and to monitor the transport quality of these paths by testing loss, latency, jitter, QoS transparency and available bandwidth on an ongoing basis. The tool will be licensed to operate for a full year from initial deployment with an option to renew, and will be accessable by all appropriate enterprise stakeholders.

Bandwidth Analysis: The demand created by the current or planned video conferencing deployment will be analyzed using a customized analysis spreadsheet, and the demand will be compared to the available bandwidth on access links and core links that are or will be carrying video conferencing traffic in the existing or planned video deployment. The spreadsheet will provide gap analysis indicating which links are over- or under-provisioned for video support. Results from the spreadsheet analysis will be provided in the assessment results.

Call Data Record Analysis (CDRs): CDRs will be collected from the existing deployment for as much history as is available from the customer. CDRs will be analyzed for packet loss to correlate with network test results and focus attention on those components of the environment that need the most help. 

QoS Deployment Review: An analytical review of the enterprise Quality of Service (QoS) deployment will be conducted to determine if video conferencing media streams are being given appropriate priority in the per-hop forwarding behavior of each switch and router along the network paths used by video.

Deliverables: The key deliverable for this assessment is a written report and a meeting in which the report is presented and discussed. The report will include a review of each of areas described above, will identify shortfalls in the current deployment based on current best practices and will comment on the potential impact and severity of impact on the delivery of a consistent high quality video conferencing service.
