Polycom, Inc. Recalls Wireless Conference Phone Battery Packs Due To Fire Hazard

SLOUGH, June 6, 2008 – Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the market leader in unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced it is working in cooperation with The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and similar agencies worldwide regarding a voluntary recall of the battery packs for SoundStation2W wireless conference phones due to faulty Lithium Ion battery packs supplied by Gold Peak Industries Ltd., located in China. The recall impacts about 8,300 conference phones worldwide that were produced between December 1, 2007 and May 2, 2008, as well as replacement battery packs sold separately during the same time period.

These battery packs can overheat, which could pose a fire or burn hazard. To date, Polycom has received one report of a battery pack overheating and causing minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The SoundStation2W wireless conference phone and battery packs are sold by business-to-business resellers who, in turn, sell through catalogs, online, telesales, through office supply stores and the Polycom Web store. Consumers should remove the battery pack from their SoundStation2W unit immediately. Once the battery pack is removed, consumers can still use their conference phone by keeping the charger plugged into the unit. Consumers should not attempt to use battery packs other than those supplied by Polycom in the unit. Consumers should contact Polycom, Inc. for information on receiving a free replacement battery pack.

To identify wireless conference phones impacted by the recall, look for the SoundStation2W wireless conference phone part number printed on the underside of the telephone. The part numbers and SKU numbers are as follows:

The affected battery packs have a black or white plastic coating and a white label with the following title: "RECHARGEABLE Li-ion BATTERY." The recalled battery pack part numbers can be found on the top right hand corner of the white label on the battery pack.
